After a product is designed, usually by an industrial designer or an engineer, molds are made by a moldmaker from metal and precision-machined to form the features of the desired part. Injection molding is low cost for simple and complex parts. Injection molding is an extremely versatile process for producing a wide range of simple or complex plastic parts - economically and with a good finish. Bioplastics are a form of plastics derived from renewable biomass sources, such as vegetable oil, corn starch, pea starch or microbiota, rather than traditional plastics which are derived from petroleum. They are used either as a direct replacement for traditional plastics or as blends with traditional plastics. All bio-based and petroleum-based plastics are technically biodegradable, meaning they can be degraded by microbes under suitable conditions.
