Biodegradable Polymer Monday, Aug 25 2008

Biodegradable polymers are designed to degrade upon disposal by the action of living organisms. The need to create alternative biodegradable water-soluble polymers for products such as detergents and cosmetics has taken on increasing importance.Since natural fibers are cheap and biodegradable, the biodegradable composites from biofibers and biodegradable polymers will render a contribution in the next century due to serious environmental problem. Manufacture of biodegradable composites from such biodegradable plastics will enhance the demand of such materials.

Although some portion of polymers can be recycled, there are polymers which take thousands of years to biodegrade.Poly (lactic acid), or PLA, is a biodegradable polymer that has received significant attention because of its ability to decompose in the relatively short timeframe of six months to two years. But PLA is significantly more expensive than a traditional polymer derived from oil, and is also very brittle. Industrial biodegradable packaging that could simply be left to decompose, eliminating landfill waste, and the costs associated with hauling it away and disposing of it is also cheap. These kinds of creativity in utilizing natural resources that will drive us towards the next generation of green materials have to be implemented.

Natur-Tec™ resins are produced by reactively blending biodegradable polymers, natural polymers, organic and inorganic materials to produce biobased/biodegradable polymer resin formulations that exhibit unique and stable morphology.

Bioplastics are a form of plastics derived from renewable biomass sources, such as vegetable oil, corn starch, pea starch or microbiota, rather than traditional plastics which are derived from petroleum. They are used either as a direct replacement for traditional plastics or as blends with traditional plastics. All bio-based and petroleum-based plastics are technically biodegradable, meaning they can be degraded by microbes under suitable conditions.

The utensils made out of this bio-based and biodegradable polymer resins are compostable. The materials made out of these resins are easy to handle and can withstand heavy heat by retaining its shape. It’s our duty to save our mother land, so help to save the environment by using high quality line of cutlery. Every year 40 billion polystyrene utensils are thrown into landfills. Using this biodegradable cutlery, allows you to convert your disposables to composable one. Biodegradable cutlery should pass all recognized tests of biodegradability and should meet the international standards for compostable plastics such as the ASTM D6400 and the DIN EN 13432 norm. There are few companies which offer this type of plastics and nature-tec is one among them. Natur-Tec , BM201S and BM201T can be used to injection mold parts for applications such as cutlery, hangers, containers and thermoforming for application of general consumer packaging.

Biodegradable Plastic

Biodegradable product produced by these types of plastic materials are decomposable in the natural environment.Biodegradable plastics are also involved in corrosion prevention.Biodegradable Plastics play an important role in aiding the collection and source separation of organic waste. These fully biodegradable and compostable plastics can be used as compost bags or bin liners for food waste collection. Unlike bags made of regular polyethylene, bags made of compostable plastics do not interfere with the composting process nor in any way degrade the quality of the final compost.

Natur-Tec offers a proprietary biodegradable resin that can be converted into film and bags of any size and thicknesses. This resin can be processed on regular blown-film equipment. NTIC’s biodegradable resin meets all international standards for compostable plastics such as ASTM D6400 (U.S.), EN 13432 (Europe) and GreenPLA (Japan) among others.

Biodegradable Packing Material Friday, Jul 25 2008

An alternative Packing and packaging material to reduce global warming has to be implemented and such material has to be Biodegradable. Biodegradable Packing Materials are Compostable and are derived from nature. This type of packaging is environmentally friendly and offers customers with a wide lot of varieties when making a purchase. These bags are totally reusable. Recycling products does not simply mean using recyclable goods but reusing what is already out there. Plastic bags and packaging already exist, and because most are not biodegradable, they won’t go away and get reused. Reusing plastic products is one simple step toward sustaining the environment. Such services are provided by certain companies like Natur-tec which produces 100%  biodegradable Bags.

Plastic waste into crude oil conversion Monday, Jun 16 2008

Necessity of disposing plastic waste

The usage of plastic products like plastic bags, carry bags, plastic bottles, etc., is rapidly increasing everywhere. But nobody aware of using such products, because they are very harmful for both the human beings and other living creatures when they are dumped into the ground. Considering environment and planet, the waste plastic products are recycled into an useful products.

Polymer Energy, LLC. is a joint venture of Northern Technologies International Corporation (NTIC). They provide economical and environmentally responsible alternative to plastic products. They uses Polymer Energy system for efficient conversion of plastic waste into crude oil. It is modular in design and a single module can produce up to 775 litres of crude oil for every ton of plastic wastes. Also it handles plastic that is contaminated with other kinds of waste such as metals, glass, dirt, water, etc.
